In June 2020, speculation was rife about which NFL teams could provide the ā€˜Best Dealā€™ for the New York Jets vis-Ć -vis Jamal Adams. The legendary player, an All-Pro and Safety in the NFL often questioned the New York Jets head coachā€™s leadership abilities, and he was pretty peeved at the team for not extending his contract. Naturally, this soured their professional relationship.Lo and behold, the New York Jets traded Adams to the Seattle Seahawks.

It was a stunner of a decision; potentially game changing for both teams. Behind-the-scenes, the New York Jets mulled the impact such a decision would have on the future performance of the team.

It comes as no surprise to NFL fans in the Empire State and the Garden State, that the Jets have been rebuilding their team for several years now. It's going to be tough without their star player, but they have a clear future focus, and they're moving full steam ahead.

With Adams gone, the New York Jets got a first-round pick for the 2021 NFL draft and the 2022 NFL draft. They signed a third-round selection in safety Bradley McDougald. To paraphrase Joe Douglas, the New York Jets general manager, ā€˜Bradley McDougaldā€™s consistency and productionā€¦ gives us more experience on defenseā€¦. we know it's important to be prepared and willing to adjust to new offers and circumstancesā€¦ this offer was one we could not ignore.ā€™

For their part, the Seattle Seahawks received a 2022 fourth round draft pick. The Seattle Seahawks will be popping the bubbly into the early hours, and reveling in their new acquisition. But for Adams, Seattle wasn't his first choice. The Dallas Cowboys would have been a better fit for him. We'll soon see how this plays out for the Jets and the Seahawks, but for now let's take a look at some of the biggest New York Jets trades over time.

Darrelle Revis Traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneersā€¦

Darrelle Revis was a revelation for the New York Jets, and their decision to trade him to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was a big one. They got 2 draft picks, including that yearā€™s first-round pick. This massive New York Jets trade took place in April 2013, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quickly announced the deal and a 6-year contract [valued at $96 million] that was set to end in 2019.

At the time, that trade was the most expensive in NFL history for a defensive back. Then general manager of the Jets, John Idzik expressed concern about the knee injury that Revis suffered, and difficulties in renegotiating a long-term contract.

Revis played 145 games in total, with 29 interceptions, 466 yards interceptions returned, and 3 touchdowns.

He played with the Jets in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, then moved to Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2013 before switching to the New England Patriots in 2014, then back to the New York Jets in 2015 and 2016. He played his final season of football with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2017.

Marvin Jones Traded to the New York Jets

Almost 3 decades ago, the Arizona Cardinals and the New York Jets switched first-round places just prior to the draft. The Cardinals were at #4 and the Jets were at #3. The switch allowed the Jets to acquire linebacker Marvin Jones and running back Johnny Johnson.

Jones played for ā€˜Gang Greenā€™ for his entire 11-season career, from 1993 to 2003. With 142 games under his belt, 9.0 sacks, approximately 730 solo tackles, and 9 forced fumbles, he was instrumental in helping to build up the New York Jets. As a #4 overall pick in the 1993 draft, his career was nothing short of spectacular. He has been coaching football professionally since 2017.

Keyshawn Johnson Traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneersā€¦

Granted, this one took place many years before Darrelle Revis was traded to TBB. Keshawn Johnson was a #1 overall draft pick from USC in 1996, when he signed up with the New York Jets. Johnson was never really happy with the New York Jets, although he played fantastic football in 1998 and 1999, scoring 1,100+ receiving yards, 80+ catches, 8 touchdowns in both seasons.

As a top draft pick, Johnson knew they had some leverage when trading him. This they did for tight end Anthony Becht and defensive end Shaun Ellis.

Other notable traits for the New York Jets include Joe Namath in 1964, Curtis Martin in 1997, Kris Jenkins in 2008, Richard Todd in 1984, Braylon Edwards in 2010, Mark Sanchez in 2009, and San Antonio Holmes at the end of 2009 season.
