Super Bowl LIV is just a few short days away and as usual it’s going to be a huge day in the world of sports betting, especially when you bet in New Jersey! The San Francisco 49ers (15-3) will look to become the second team to win a championship the season after finishing with five or fewer wins when they take on the Kansas City Chiefs (14-4). The Chiefs are looking to make some history of their own as they attempt to win their first championship in 50 years. This is their first time in the Super Bowl since beating Minnesota--in Super Bowl IV. So yeah, lots of history at stake.
Speaking of stakes, let’s take a look at some of the best game bets, starting with the Super Bowl betting spread.
Point Spread
The Chiefs are currently -1.5 (-110) favorites. That’s about as close as it gets. There is some good value here if you like the Chiefs to win and/or cover the spread. The Chiefs run defense is much improved beginning with the latter half of the season and into the playoffs. They held Houston’s Carlos Hyde to 44 yards rushing in the divisional round then backed that up by holding Superman aka Derrick Henry to just 69 yards rushing in the AFC Championship game. Henry had been having one of the all-time great postseasons for a running back up until then. They’ve also done a pretty good job of pressuring the quarterback this postseason, with eight sacks and countless hurries.
They will have to be at their best to contain Niners running back Raheem Mostert, who ran for 220 yards and four touchdowns against Green Bay in the NFC Championship game. The Niners are +1.5 (-110); they had the No.1 rushing offense in the playoffs, so they will be leaning on that for this game to keep this game tight. There isn’t much value in betting the point spread alone, so the value lies in the parlays. Kansas City Chiefs -1.5 and Under 54.5 Total Points (+250). There’s also great value in a couple of alternate lines, Kansas City -3 (+116) or -3.5 (+125).
Moneyline
The Niners moneyline is +104 and the Chiefs are -127. That’s almost a pick ‘em, but the value lies with the Chiefs. Though the Niners have a really good defense, the Chiefs have too many great players on offense, beginning and ending with the dynamic Patrick Mahomes. But that’s why it’s called gambling, so taking the Niners to win would net you more money than taking the Chiefs. Once again, it’s all about the parlay play here, so Kansas City Chiefs moneyline and Under 54.5 Total Points (+230) holds the best value here.
Total Points
The over/under for the game is currently at 54 Total Points (-110). If you haven’t figured it out by now, I really like the under in this game. This is a really high number to begin with, and then combine that with the rush offense of the Niners being able to chew up some clock, that leaves less possessions for the high-flying Chiefs offense. This game won’t (hopefully) be anywhere near as boring as last year’s game, but it will be a bit of a grind. The 49ers defense is good enough to make sure the Chiefs offense doesn’t go crazy, so they’ll be in this game for the full 60 minutes.
Those are some of the favorite game bets. We’ll take a look at both Prop and MVP bets over the next couple of days.
