Welcome to the third and final installment of Super Bowl betting guide. We’ve given you insight on Super Bowl betting lines and player props, and now we’ll take a look at some potential MVP prop winners. The MVP prop bet is one of the hardest to predict in the Super Bowl because someone out of nowhere can win it, though it’s usually a quarterback’s award to lose.
Let’s take a look at some of the MVP bets.
Patrick Mahomes (+115)
Mahomes is the favorite to win this award. He’s only a season removed from winning the overall league MVP and he’s arguably the best quarterback in the league. Actually, no argument, he is. Mahomes threw for over 4,000 yards, and 26 touchdowns to only 5 interceptions. He will get a lot of opportunities to throw as well, as he’s thrown at least 25 times in each game he played this past season. The only downside to betting on Mahomes is that he’s the favorite to win it so there’s not a ton of value there.
Jimmy Garoppolo (+225)
This one holds much better value. If you think the Niners are going to win then this is the pick for you. The one downside with it is that the Niners have been running a ton t his postseason, thus limiting his opportunities. The upside is that it could be a high-scoring game and he has been a very efficient passer all season.
Raheem Mostert (+900)
A non-QB has won the MVP three of the last six years, with wide receiver Julian Edelman winning it last year. If you think the Niners will win this game, then you probably think they will use the formula that got them here, which was a lot o f Raheem Mostert. He had an incredible NFC Championship Game with 220 yards rushing on four touchdowns. If he even does half of that, he has a shot at winning the MVP. Great value here.
George Kittle (+1600)
No tight end has ever won Super Bowl MVP. With that being said, you have the top two in the entire league playing here. Could Kittle break the streak? The Niners rely on Kittle as much as Kelce is relied on by the Chiefs, so there’s a chance here.
Tyreek Hill (+2000)
Hill has game-breaking speed and is a threat to score literally from anywhere on the field. He’s KC’s biggest deep threat and can make something out of nothing. This wouldn’t be a bad play at all.
Travis Kelce (+2000)
The other elite tight end. Even on a team with ridiculous wide receiver talent like the Chiefs have, Kelce is still Mahomes’ go-to guy. In the divisional round against Houston, he had 10 catches for 134 yards and three touchdowns. If he repeats that performance, he’s got a fantastic chance to win MVP. No tight end has ever won the Super Bowl MVP, but this game is going to be the best opportunity for that to finally happen, ever.
Nick Bosa (+2500)
Bosa will most likely win Defensive Rookie of the Year, but will that translate to the Super Bowl MVP? He will need a lot of things to fall his way, the least of which being an absolutely monster game from the defensive end position. With the amount of passing that KC does, he will have a chance to make plays. It’s just a question of will he make a big enough dent in the game to win MVP. That’s asking a lot.
Damien Williams (+2500)
A running back hasn’t won Super Bowl MVP in over 20 years, but after quarterback, they are the most solid bets out there. It’s a lot easier to predict what running backs will get voluma as opposed to say, wide receivers, so it’s not a bad bet at all to put a little something on either starting back. Something to note: Williams has had five touchdowns over his past three games.
Tyrann Mathieu (+6000)
Let’s end with one longshot. Mathieu is by far the best player on the KC defense. He is the heart of that defense. He plays all over the field and has the ability to actually put up points from the safety position. If he ends up leading the game in tackles and gets a couple of interceptions or a fumble recovery, maybe even scoring on one, he’d have a great chance of winning MVP. Worth throwing a dart at this one.
That’s it for the MVP props, as well as the other betting previews. A lot to digest, so take your time, good luck, and enjoy watching Super Bowl LIV!
