Ed Derian

Ed Derian is the stage name of Setrak Ejdaharian.  This legendary boxing announcer is one of the most famous guys of all time. He died at the age of 77, but he lived a celebrated life and gained international superstardom as a boxing announcer. With lines like, ‘Action? You better believe it!’

Derian endeared himself to masses of boxing fans. He loved to call all the guys ‘honorable’, and he often repeated the last names of the fighters standing beside him. This Armenian born superstar was a true celebrity in the boxing world. He was inducted into the Pennsylvania Boxing Hall of Fame in 2010, many years after his passing.

Michael Buffer

Arguably the most famous boxing announcer of modern times, Michael Buffer says it best, ‘… For the thousands in attendance, and the millions watching around the world…. Ladies and gentlemen, let's get ready to rumble!'

Would you believe that Michael Buffer is a mega-millionaire, thanks to his legendary catchphrase.

He has starred in dozens of movies, since 1988, including Harlem Nights, Rocky V, Play To The Bone, Ready To Rumble, Game Over, Fade To Black, Rocky Balboa, You Don't Mess With The Zohan, The Fighter, Grudge Match, Creed, Creed II, and Holmes & Watson.

His work on ESPN has been going on for over 35 years, and he has introduced the biggest fights in history, including superstars Sugar Ray Leonard, Evander Holyfield, Matt Hardy, and a YouTube bout between Logan Paul & KSI.

Howard Cosell

Howard Cosell was a towering man who stood 6 feet tall. A talented sports anchor, boxing announcer, and announcer, he also fought in the Second World War. He was known for his arrogance, bluster, and outspoken ways.

Back in 1993, he was awarded the title of ‘The All-Time Best Sportscaster’, and his erudite ways are certainly evident in all of the video footage we have found of him.

He commentated on scores of boxing matches, including the legendary bout between George Foreman and Joe Frazier. He will certainly be remembered as one of the all-time great boxing commentators.

Larry Merchant

Even if you don't know the name, you probably recognize his face! Larry Merchant is a legendary HBO Sports Presenter and HBO World Championship Boxing Commentator. At 89 years of age, he has seen his fair share of fights from the world's finest pugilists.

He has stirred plenty of controversy over his career, particularly with legendary fighters like Floyd Mayweather Jr.

His legendary quip to the ever-arrogant Mayweather will go down in the boxing annals of history, ‘… I wish I was 50 years younger and I’d kick your ass!’

Sal Marchiano

Sal Marchiano was a WPIX sports anchor, and New York sports icon. He was famous in the 1970s and 1980s, and he did everything old school style.

His fans call him a New York legend, and one of the best tributes to his greatness is a tell all published in 2007 titled ‘In My Rearview Mirror.’

Harold Lederman

Harold Lederman will go down in history of one of the all-time most famous boxing ring announcers. Born in 1940, he got certified in 1967 as a boxing judge. He was there at Yankee Stadium when Mohammed Ali and Ken Norton squared off.

He was an American boxing judge and HBO superstar. He scored fights on air, with plenty of style and grace. His glittering career kicked off in 1967 and continued until HBO no longer participated in boxing events back in 2018.

He was officially inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2016.

Al Bernstein

Al Bernstein loved boxing! He was another ESPN boxing analyst who joined the company in 1980 and continued until 2003.

During that time, he ran Big Fights Boxing Hour on ESPN classic, and he also featured prominently as the boxing analyst on NBC during the Summer Olympic Games between 1992 and 1996.

Later on, he moved to Showtime, and then Channel 5 as a boxing analyst.

Although not as celebrated as Michael Buffer, he has also featured in several films as a boxing commentator and announcer, including Rocky V, and Bleed for This.

Al was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2012, the Connecticut Boxing Hall of Fame in 2013, and the Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame in 2013.

Kenny Albert

Kenny Albert is a relative newcomer to the scene. The sportscaster has a proud heritage in sports analysis, commentary, and announcing, with legendary sportscasters in his line, including Steve Albert, Al Albert, and Marv Albert.

He does play-by-play for all of the major pro sports leagues in the US and Canada – the only sports commentator to do that.

He was announced as the Blow By Blow announcer for PBC Fights on NBCSN, and back in 2015, his dad, Marv Albert commented for 11 fights on NBC.

His history in boxing goes many years back to the days when his dad called fights for NBC with Ferdie Pacheco.

He attended the fight between Larry Holmes and Scott Frank back in 1983, and he watched the likes of Ray Mercer, Roy Jones, and Riddick Bowe during the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea.
