During any given season, the performance of an NCAA team is wholly dependent on the synergy, talent, determination, and good fortune of the basketball team in question. Women's basketball is no different, and features a stellar cast of players who have elevated their teams to ranking status in the National Collegiate Athletics Association. Many schools have set their sights on the ultimate prize – that being the national championships. Only a few have had the auspicious honor of achieving that illustrious objective.
Connecticut
The women's NCAA basketball teams with the most championships include a familiar cast of characters. Leading the charge is none other than Connecticut. This team boasts an impressive 11 NCAA Championships, including the following years: 1995, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2009, 2010, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016. The University of Connecticut has had a multi-year hiatus from winning a championship, but that certainly doesn't detract from the greatness this team has displayed over so many years. Consider that 6/11 (54.54%) of their seasons were undefeated. This team also had a record shattering 111 game win streak that lasted well over two years (867 days 2014-2017). Now that is the reason why the University of Connecticut a.k.a. UConn is the undisputed leader when it comes to the best women's NCAA teams.

Tennessee
Moving things along, there are some other great teams in the women's NCAA Division I standings. Next on this coveted list is Tennessee. There are many who believe that the University of Tennessee boasts the greatest basketball program in the country, UConn fans are notable exceptions. UT has won more women’s basketball Division I games than any other program. Consider that 42 WNBA draft picks have come from this University, 14 Olympic medalists, and 21 All-Americans. The Lady Vols were expertly coached by none other than Pat Summit – the Hall of Famer. Under the erstwhile leader's tutelage, UT racked up an incredible 16 SEC titles, followed by 18 Final Fours, and 8 National Championships. They won the NCAA Championships in 1987, 1989, 1991, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2007, and 2008. Consider this stat: Tennessee has not missed an NCAA tournament since 1982 – that's 38 years +.

Baylor
Baylor needs no introduction to the world of women's college basketball. This NCAA Division I team has all the makings of greatness, and they are also the most recent winners of the NCAA Women’s Division I Championship. The Baylor Bears feature prominently on the hardwood, and their last two titles in 2012 and 2019 were particularly credible. They won by just 1 point in 2019, and in 2012 they finished a 40-0 season to cement their status as the creme de la creme of Women's Division I basketball. The Baylor Bears play in the Big 12, and during the 2019/20 season, they were ranked #1 in the conference. Clearly, this team is going places, and are certainly contenders for many more NCAA Women’s Division I Championships in the future.
Stanford
The Stanford Cardinal women’s basketball team really deserves a berth on the best ever women's NCAA teams list. Stanford University’s (women's team) first season was 1974/1975 with head coach Tara VanDerveer. They play in the Pac 12 conference, and they were crowned the NCAA champions in 1989/1990 with an overall season performance of 32-1, and they won the championship again in 1991/1992 with a record of 30-3. While they haven't won an NCAA championship since, they have featured prominently in the NCAA Sweet 16 (1987/1988, 1992/1993, 2001/2002, 2014/2015, and 2017/2018). They've also featured prominently in the Elite 8 (1988/1989, 1993/1994, 2003/2004, 2004/2005, 2005/2006, 2015/2016, and 2018/2019). Their performances are equally stunning in the Final Four phase of the competition (1990/1991, 1995/1996, 1996/1997, 2008/2009, 2010/2011, 2011/2012, 2013/2014, and 2016/2017). Go Cardinal!
Notre Dame
Notre Dame college is actually one of the best out there, even though they don't have many NCAA Championships to their credit. Coached by Muffet McGraw, Notre Dame has had some spectacular NCAA women’s basketball seasons. They won the championship in 2001, and after a hiatus of 17 years, they won it again in 2018. They were one basket short of becoming repeat champions recently, but they have managed to rack up 6 championship games in the process. In 2019, Notre Dame lost by just 1 point to Baylor with the final score at Amalie Arena, in Tampa Florida listed as 82-81 for that year's Queens of the Hardwood – Baylor.
