New Jersey is home to some of the greatest athletes in the country, but the Garden State doesn't have its own Major League Baseball (MLB) team. Sure, there are a good many Minor League Baseball (MLB) teams in this North-Eastern state, hence the ambiguous title of my article.

MLB fans in New Jersey tend to support a variety of out-of-state teams including the New York Yankees, and the New York Mets. Pennsylvania is also home to an MLB team that New Jersey fans love – the Philadelphia Phillies. So, we've narrowed it down to 2 New York-based teams and 1 team from Philadelphia.

New York Yankees Performances

* The New York Yankees placed 1st in the American League in the following years: 2019, 2012, 2011, 2009, 2006, 2005, 2004, 2003, 2002, 2001, 2000… In fact, they are so prolific at leading from the front in the American League, that there are too many years to list. If they didn't win, they repeatedly placed second over many years, including 2018, 2017, 2015, 2014, 2010, 27, 1997, 1995…

* The New York Yankees have won the World Series more times than any other Major League Baseball team. They have a total record of 27 championships to their credit. The last time they won the World Series was in 2009, and before that it was 2000, 1999, and 1998. In fact, the New York Yankees are arguably the most successful-ever MLB franchise of all time. Their closest competition is the St Louis Cardinals who won the World Series 11 times.

New York Mets Performances

* The New York Mets participate in the National League East division, abbreviated as NL East. The New York Mets have placed first in their division in 2015, 2006, 1988, 1986, 1973, and 1969.

They finished second in their division in 2016, 2014, 2008, 2007, 2000, 1999…

While certainly not nearly as successful as the New York Yankees, they are a top baseball team with some stellar performances in their division over time.

* The New York Mets have won the World Series twice, first in 1969 and again in 1986. In 1969, the Mets beat the Baltimore Orioles to win the World Series, and in 1986, the Mets beat the Boston Red Sox to win the World Series.

Philadelphia Phillies Performances

The Philadelphia Phillies are an exceptional team. They have made it to the play-offs 14 times, with 7 pennants, and they have won 2 World Series Championships. Their most successful year in terms of win/loss ratios in recent times took place in 2011 when they played 162 games, won 102, and lost 60 for a win/loss ratio of 0.633; they made it to the playoffs, but they lost 3-2.

Incidentally, when they won the World Series in 2008, their win/loss ratio was 0.568, and when they won it the first time in 1980, their win/loss ratio was 0.559.

* The year -by-year results for the Philadelphia Phillies indicate that they placed first in the National League East in 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008, 2007, 1993….

They finished second multiple times, including 2006, 2005, 2004, 2001… In 2019, the Philadelphia Phillies finished fourth in the NL East with a win/loss ratio of 0.500.

In summary, it is clear that the New York Yankees, the New York Mets, and the Philadelphia Phillies – in that order – are the most successful MLB teams that New Jersey baseball fans support.
