The New Jersey Nets team was established in 1967, in the Garden State. However, the team moved from New Jersey to New York, back to New Jersey, and then back to Brooklyn. The reason why the team kept straddling the state lines between New York and New Jersey was poor crowd attendance, but that didn't stop the steam from racking up some incredible victories over the years. Their logo has changed several times since inception, from the New Jersey Nets to the New York Nets, and from the New Jersey Americans back to the Brooklyn Nets. Regardless, in this post we're going to do some digging to uncover when this team performed at its best.

It's worth pointing out that the Nets have not won an NBA Championship or an ABA Championship. Their arena is currently the Barclays Center, and before that it was the Prudential Center, the Izod Center, and Rutgers Athletic Center. I often get asked the question: Who was the greatest Nets player of all time? Was It Bernard King? Derek Coleman? Buck Williams? Vince Carter? Kenyon Martin? Jason Kidd? or Keith Van Horn? Truth be told, these are all legendary NBA players and we're going to wind the clocks back to find which Nets team was the most successful. Ready? Let's get started!

There are many Nets teams that performed exceptionally well. One of the ways we can judge them is based on their winning margin a.k.a. The point margin.

* Back in 1992/1993 the New Jersey Nets played against the Washington Bullets. It was a decisive victory and the team won 124-79 with a points margin of 45.

* In 2008/2009, the New Jersey Nets played against the Denver Nuggets. It was a shellacking for the Nuggets as they lost by 114-70, and a points margin of 44.

* Even further back in 2001/2002, the New Jersey Nets played against the Washington Wizards and handed them a crushing defeat by a margin of 44 points, with the final score line reading 111-67.

* In 1986/1987, the New Jersey Nets played against the Washington Bullets – their favorite team to crush, and they won 121-79. This 42-point margin of victory was certainly up there among the best of all time.

* In 2019/2020, the Brooklyn Nets competed against the Golden State Warriors and beat them 129-88 for a 41-point margin of victory. That decisive victory was comparable to other notable wins against the Cleveland Cavaliers (120-79 in 2002/2003), and the Utah Jazz (137-96 in 1979/1980).

* In 1991/1992, the New Jersey Nets played against the Denver Nuggets and beat them 121-81, for a 40 point margin of victory. The same margin of victory was scored against the Detroit Pistons in 1979/1980 when the score read 140-100.

Let's check out the New Jersey Nets performance in terms of their W-L ratios:

The winning percentage is probably one of the best ways to evaluate the performance of the New Jersey Nets, and then we can take a look at team members who made it all happen. There are at least 5 seasons worth looking at, including the following:

* In 2002, the New Jersey Nets had a win/loss ratio of 52-30, with a win percentage of .634
* In 2013, the Brooklyn Nets had a win/loss ratio of 49-33, with a win percentage of .598
* In 2006, the New Jersey Nets had a win/loss ratio of 49-33, with a win percentage of .598
* In 2003, the New Jersey Nets had a win/loss ratio of 49-33, with a win percentage of .598
* In 1983, the New Jersey Nets had a win/loss ratio of 49-33, with a win percentage of .598

Sure, there are many other seasons where that win/loss ratio is solid, such as 2004, 1994, 1984, and 2014. We like to keep things as close to the .600 mark is possible, and that's why I've considered the top 5.

In 2001/2002, the team's fantastic record allowed them to finish first in the NBA Atlantic Division. They were coached by Byron Scott who finished the season with a record of 52-30. In the NBA 2002 play-offs, the New Jersey Nets won the NBA Eastern Conference first-round (3-2) and they won the NBA Eastern Conference semifinals (4-1), and they won the Eastern Conference (4-2).

Now let's look at the team members who made this all happen: Brandon Armstrong, Jason Collins, Derrick Dial, Steve Goodrich, Lucios Harris, Richard Jefferson, Anthony Johnson, Jason Kidd, Kerry Kittles, Todd MacCulloch, Donny Marshall, Kenyon Martin, Brian Scalabrine, Reggie Slater, Keith Van Horn, and Aaron Williams.

Hope you enjoyed our journey through time to uncover the best team ever. We've got the scoop on the Brooklyn Nets so you can simply shoot to score more with 888sport NJ!
