The New Jersey Devils are one of those legendary East Coast NHL teams. I've always loved this Garden State hockey team, even though they have failed to shine in recent years, they remain one of my favorites. The New Jersey Devils have played in the NHL for 45 seasons, with 3 Stanley Cups to their credit and 23 NHL playoff appearances, with a playoff record of 137 – 122. The team has won a total of 1515 games, lost 1572 games, and tied 328 games (as of March 2020). While there is certainly room for improvement, this is a franchise that has performed at the highest levels of the NHL and likely will do so again in the future.

In this post, we're going to take a look at the most successful seasons for the New Jersey Devils, including the years when they won the Stanley Cup, and when they performed well in their Division and Conference. The all-time leading goal scorer for the New Jersey Devils is none other than Patrik Elias (408), and the all-time points leader is the selfsame man with 1025 points. During the 2005/2006 season, Brian Gionta racked up a record 48 goals – a remarkable NHL achievement for the team.

The stats paint a clear picture about how well the team performed during these cluster years between 1996 and 1999, and 2001 and 2010. It is notable that team's performances since they lost the Stanley Cup Final in 2011/2012, was followed by a period of rebuilding and consolidation. If we look at the win/loss percentage of the New Jersey Devils since they lost the Stanley Cup Final in 2011/2012, one of the best years for the team was 2017/2018 when they played 82 games, won 44 games, and lost 29 games. Prior to that the team did incredibly well in the following years 2000/2001 (.677 PTS %), 2008/2009 (.646 PTS %), and 2009/2010 (.628 PTS %).

These stats make for interesting reading for a truly great team which plays in the Eastern Conference, and is part of the Metropolitan Division. Recall that in 2019, the New Jersey Devils won the NHL draft lottery on 9 April, and they got to pick first. Who did they select? Jack Hughes! They later got Wayne Simmonds and they've got the likes of Will Butcher and Jesper Bratt to bolster the team. When they traded for P.K. Subban, they ensured that they would be a force to be reckoned with in coming years. Watch this space!
