I've been following the Aztec's performances in 2019/2020, and they have bulldozed their way to victory in spectacular fashion. During the regular season which kicked off on Tuesday, 5 November, they went up against Texas Southern and demolished them 77-42. The San Diego State Aztecs proceeded to win 26 games on the trot, including big wins over the following teams:
* San Diego State versus San Diego (66-49)
* San Diego state @ Colorado state (79-57)
* San Diego State versus Utah (80-52)
* San Diego State versus Wyoming (72-55)
* San Diego State versus New Mexico (82-59)
* San Diego State at Boise State (72-55)
A Narrow Loss Ends a Fantastic Winning Streak for the San Diego Aztecs
Even when the San Diego State Aztecs last their only game heading into March 2020, it was only by a margin of 3 points against UNLV (66-63). That defeat didn't set them back, as they went on to score impressive wins against Colorado State 3 days later (66-60) followed by a win at Nevada (83-76). This begs the question: is the current San Diego State Aztecs team the best ever? In my opinion, it certainly qualifies as such, but further scrutiny of their past performances is warranted.

San Diego Aztecs Post a String of Impressive Victories
Clearly, with the current season still underway, there is room for the top 2 positions to change. However, having said that it is clear that the current 2019/2020 performance of the San Diego State Aztecs ranks among the best ever in recorded history. In the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, the team struggled to establish itself as a competitive force. The best it could hope for in the NCAA tournament at the time was a first round finish. However, come the 2000s, the team started performing more consistently, generating a win/loss percentage over 0.500 on a regular basis.

They have maintained dominance since 2005/2006 where their percentages are off the charts. They have still not won the NCAA tournament, having lost along the way in the first round, regional semi-final, second round, third round, and so forth. In 2019/2020, Coach Brian Dutcher is hoping to take his team all the way to the top of the NCAAB standings. Whether this comes to pass depends on a host of factors, including the performance of other teams in other divisions.
In an interview with 10 News in San Diego , Coach Brian Dutcher was quoted as saying, βAnybody that was saying they thought a loss would be good for the Aztecs, we don't feel that way at all. Vastly disappointed. We wanted a perfect season, but it didn't happen and that's college basketball. I'm smart enough to know that every game you play is going to be a challenge. We have to use this moment to find a way to get better.β
