Here at 888 Sports, when we're not helping you win big in the 888 sportsbook, we're on Twitter, following our favorite athletes. Starting with the early years of the internet and into the age of social media, sports fans like never before have direct access to their favorite professional athletes.

Fans are now able to tell their favorites how much they love them (or hate them), and sometimes they’re even lucky enough to even get a response (or unlucky depending on what was originally said). Social media, especially the Twitter format, has also shown us different sides of professional athletes, from the introspective to the humorous. Many of them are a bit boring, but plenty of them show a funny side.

For the sake of this article, we’re going to tread on the lighter side of things and take a look at the funniest professional athletes, past and present, on Twitter with their Twitter handles.

10. Adam “Not Pac-Man” Jones - @SimplyAJ10

The former longtime Baltimore Oriole and newly signed Orix Buffalo of the Nippon Professional League has always had his finger on the pulse of social media, especially Twitter. He’s very interactive with fans, friend and foe.

He loves to tweet about all the food he eats, often using the #StayHungry hashtag. He’s also not afraid to “clapback” whenever a hater comes into his mentions; his quick wit will light any hater on fire. Now that he’ll be playing in Japan, look for some amazing food tweets.

9. Paul Bissonnette - @BizNasty2Point0

Bissonnette, a former NHL hockey player for the Pittsburgh Penguins and Phoenix Coyotes, is definitely known more for his tweeting than his actual hockey career, as it was a middling one to say the least. He was one of only two hockey players to make Sports Illustrated’s inaugural Twitter 10, their list of the best athletes to follow on Twitter back in 2011.

He’s responsible for coining the phrases “twooping” (tweeting while on the toilet) and “panty soup” (his term for getting lucky, if you know what I mean). Unsurprisingly, he is one of the hosts for Barstool Sports’ hockey podcast, Spittin’ Chiclets.

8. Kevin Durant - @KDTrey5

Durant has made a name for himself on Twitter for randomly defending himself whenever someone, be it professional journalist or regular hater, calls him out publicly. He doesn’t always do it, so it’s almost a surprise when he does.

But it is funny to see him clapback. He also famously has a “burner” account (a separate account that is under an assumed name) that he uses to defend himself without putting his name on it. That’s actually hilarious part.

7. Chris Paul - @CP3

Paul’s State Farm Insurance commercials are pretty funny, showing his sense of humor, and the same can be said for his Twitter account. Be it making fun of teammates and friends in the NBA, or making fun of celebrities like Kevin Hart, Paul has a very entertaining account. He’s great at using hashtags.

6. Jose Canseco - @JoseCanseco

Talk about an absolutely wild Twitter account. Canseco mixes calling out former players alleged steroid abuse and infidelities, with tweets about him actually dying and now he’s a vampire. Great stuff.

5. Steve Elkington - @elkpga

The former PGA tour player has made a name for himself by being blunt and in-your-face in his assessments of current players on the tour. He has definitely burned some bridges, but the funny part is he doesn’t care and keeps being real. Definitely one of the best if not the b est follows in #GolfTwitter.

4. Chris Long - @JOEL9ONE

The former NFL defensive lineman is easily one of the smartest and wittiest on Twitter. He is a true ally to those that feel disenfranchised by the current state of affairs in the country, often times defending the likes of Colin Kaepernick and taking on several other social issues.

None of that is comedic per se, but when the trolls enter the fray and try to match wits with Long, it’s hilarious how easily he dismantles them. Truly one of the best follows on the platform.

3. Shaquille O’Neal - @SHAQ

Shaq has always been known as a fun, and funny, professional athlete. Not only was he a dominant player, but also somewhat of a court jester, and has a personality as big as his 7-foot 350-lb frame. He’s one of the more entertaining tv analysts be it during his Shaqtin’ A Fool segment or when he’s roasting Charles Barkley.

He does both on Twitter, often relying on fan input in finding the clips for his Shaqtin’ segment.

2. Jared Dudley - @JaredDudley619

The Los Angeles Lakers role-player has long had a penchant for being the “TMZ” of the league on Twitter, oftentimes posting BTS (behind the scenes) funny video clips of his teammates. He doesn’t pull any punches when it comes to social commentary as well as movie reviews. Just an all-around entertaining account.

1. Chad Johnson - @ochocinco

Simply put, Johnson’s Twitter account is the best out there. Even when he was still playing in the NFL, it was pretty good, but now that he’s out from under the strict umbrella of the NFL, he can say whatever he wants. With that being said, his account isn’t all that controversial, but he often tweets with regular people and is often down to meet up with whomever just to say hi.

He’s an avid videogamer, especially FIFA soccer, so is always accepting of a challenge online via Twitter. He says anything and everything, and truly ups the entertainment value of the medium.
